Snefru
Category: Hashing
Status: Registered and callable in the CyberChef 11.3.0 compatibility inventory.
Input / output: ArrayBuffer → string
Background: https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Snefru
What it does
Snefru is a cryptographic hash function invented by Ralph Merkle in 1990 while working at Xerox PARC. The function supports 128-bit and 256-bit output. It was named after the Egyptian Pharaoh Sneferu, continuing the tradition of the Khufu and Khafre block ciphers. The original design of Snefru was shown to be insecure by Eli Biham and Adi Shamir who were able to use differential cryptanalysis to find hash collisions. The design was then modified by increasing the number of iterations of the main pass of the algorithm from two to eight.
Note
Status here means the operation name is implemented and callable. It does not by itself promise byte-for-byte parity for every upstream option. See Compatibility and current status for the verified scope and known boundaries.
Arguments and options
Arguments are positional. Keep their order when using bake() or
Pipeline.then().

Recipe template
Important
This is a call template built from the documented defaults. Replace placeholder values such as empty keys, paths, patterns, or lookup data before running it.
from pychef import bake
input_value = b"example"
args = [256, '8']
result = bake(input_value, [{"op": 'Snefru', "args": args}])
print(result)
Pipeline example
from pychef import Pipeline
args = [256, '8']
transform = Pipeline().then('Snefru', *args)
result = transform(b"example")
Direct call
pychef.ops.run_operation runs any registered operation as a plain function,
under the active ExecutionPolicy (safe defaults, no network):
from pychef.ops import run_operation
args = [256, '8']
result = run_operation('Snefru', b"example", args=args)
Common operations also have typed helpers in Direct operations.
Low-level operation module
Warning
The module below is an internal implementation detail. It applies no execution
policy, resource limits, or error sanitization; prefer bake(), Pipeline,
or pychef.ops for application code.
The registered entry point lives in
pychef.operations.by_operation.snefru. Direct calls
receive the input value and a positional argument tuple:
from pychef.operations.by_operation.snefru import run
result = run(b"example", tuple([256, '8']))
- pychef.operations.by_operation.snefru.run(value, args)
Run this operation using its shared internal implementation.
- Parameters:
value (str | bytes)
args (Sequence[Any])
- Return type:
str | bytes
