Multiple Bombe
Category: Bletchley
Status: Registered and callable in the CyberChef 11.3.0 compatibility inventory.
Input / output: string → JSON
Background: https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombe
What it does
Emulation of the Bombe machine used to attack Enigma. This version carries out multiple Bombe runs to handle unknown rotor configurations. You should test your menu on the single Bombe operation before running it here. See the description of the Bombe operation for instructions on choosing a crib. More detailed descriptions of the Enigma, Typex and Bombe operations can be found here.
Note
Status here means the operation name is implemented and callable. It does not by itself promise byte-for-byte parity for every upstream option. See Compatibility and current status for the verified scope and known boundaries.
Arguments and options
Arguments are positional. Keep their order when using bake() or
Pipeline.then().

Recipe template
Important
This is a call template built from the documented defaults. Replace placeholder values such as empty keys, paths, patterns, or lookup data before running it.
from pychef import bake
input_value = "example"
args = ['[\n {\n name: "German Service Enigma (First - 3 rotor)",\n value: [\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS, 0, 5),\n "",\n rotorsFormat(REFLECTORS, 0, 1)\n ]\n },\n {\n name: "German Service Enigma (Second - 3 rotor)",\n value: [\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS, 0, 8),\n "",\n rotorsFormat(REFLECTORS, 0, 2)\n ]\n },\n {\n name: "German Service Enigma (Third - 4 rotor)",\n value: [\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS, 0, 8),\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS_FOURTH, 1, 2),\n rotorsFormat(REFLECTORS, 2, 3)\n ]\n },\n {\n name: "German Service Enigma (Fourth - 4 rotor)",\n value: [\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS, 0, 8),\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS_FOURTH, 1, 3),\n rotorsFormat(REFLECTORS, 2, 4)\n ]\n },\n {\n name: "User defined",\n value: ["", "", ""]\n },\n ]', '', '', '', '', 0, True]
result = bake(input_value, [{"op": 'Multiple Bombe', "args": args}])
print(result)
Pipeline example
from pychef import Pipeline
args = ['[\n {\n name: "German Service Enigma (First - 3 rotor)",\n value: [\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS, 0, 5),\n "",\n rotorsFormat(REFLECTORS, 0, 1)\n ]\n },\n {\n name: "German Service Enigma (Second - 3 rotor)",\n value: [\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS, 0, 8),\n "",\n rotorsFormat(REFLECTORS, 0, 2)\n ]\n },\n {\n name: "German Service Enigma (Third - 4 rotor)",\n value: [\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS, 0, 8),\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS_FOURTH, 1, 2),\n rotorsFormat(REFLECTORS, 2, 3)\n ]\n },\n {\n name: "German Service Enigma (Fourth - 4 rotor)",\n value: [\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS, 0, 8),\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS_FOURTH, 1, 3),\n rotorsFormat(REFLECTORS, 2, 4)\n ]\n },\n {\n name: "User defined",\n value: ["", "", ""]\n },\n ]', '', '', '', '', 0, True]
transform = Pipeline().then('Multiple Bombe', *args)
result = transform("example")
Direct call
pychef.ops.run_operation runs any registered operation as a plain function,
under the active ExecutionPolicy (safe defaults, no network):
from pychef.ops import run_operation
args = ['[\n {\n name: "German Service Enigma (First - 3 rotor)",\n value: [\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS, 0, 5),\n "",\n rotorsFormat(REFLECTORS, 0, 1)\n ]\n },\n {\n name: "German Service Enigma (Second - 3 rotor)",\n value: [\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS, 0, 8),\n "",\n rotorsFormat(REFLECTORS, 0, 2)\n ]\n },\n {\n name: "German Service Enigma (Third - 4 rotor)",\n value: [\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS, 0, 8),\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS_FOURTH, 1, 2),\n rotorsFormat(REFLECTORS, 2, 3)\n ]\n },\n {\n name: "German Service Enigma (Fourth - 4 rotor)",\n value: [\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS, 0, 8),\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS_FOURTH, 1, 3),\n rotorsFormat(REFLECTORS, 2, 4)\n ]\n },\n {\n name: "User defined",\n value: ["", "", ""]\n },\n ]', '', '', '', '', 0, True]
result = run_operation('Multiple Bombe', "example", args=args)
Common operations also have typed helpers in Direct operations.
Low-level operation module
Warning
The module below is an internal implementation detail. It applies no execution
policy, resource limits, or error sanitization; prefer bake(), Pipeline,
or pychef.ops for application code.
The registered entry point lives in
pychef.operations.by_operation.multiple_bombe. Direct calls
receive the input value and a positional argument tuple:
from pychef.operations.by_operation.multiple_bombe import run
result = run("example", tuple(['[\n {\n name: "German Service Enigma (First - 3 rotor)",\n value: [\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS, 0, 5),\n "",\n rotorsFormat(REFLECTORS, 0, 1)\n ]\n },\n {\n name: "German Service Enigma (Second - 3 rotor)",\n value: [\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS, 0, 8),\n "",\n rotorsFormat(REFLECTORS, 0, 2)\n ]\n },\n {\n name: "German Service Enigma (Third - 4 rotor)",\n value: [\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS, 0, 8),\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS_FOURTH, 1, 2),\n rotorsFormat(REFLECTORS, 2, 3)\n ]\n },\n {\n name: "German Service Enigma (Fourth - 4 rotor)",\n value: [\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS, 0, 8),\n rotorsFormat(ROTORS_FOURTH, 1, 3),\n rotorsFormat(REFLECTORS, 2, 4)\n ]\n },\n {\n name: "User defined",\n value: ["", "", ""]\n },\n ]', '', '', '', '', 0, True]))
- pychef.operations.by_operation.multiple_bombe.run(value, args)
Run this operation using its shared internal implementation.
- Parameters:
value (str | bytes)
args (Sequence[Any])
- Return type:
str | bytes
