Ascon Encrypt
Category: Ciphers
Status: Registered and callable in the CyberChef 11.3.0 compatibility inventory.
Input / output: string → string
Background: https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Ascon_(cipher)
What it does
Ascon-AEAD128 authenticated encryption as standardised in NIST SP 800-232. Ascon is a family of lightweight authenticated encryption algorithms designed for constrained devices such as IoT sensors and embedded systems. Key: Must be exactly 16 bytes (128 bits). Nonce: Must be exactly 16 bytes (128 bits). Should be unique for each encryption with the same key. Never reuse a nonce with the same key. Associated Data: Optional additional data that is authenticated but not encrypted. Useful for including metadata like headers or timestamps. The output includes both the ciphertext and a 128-bit authentication tag.
Note
Status here means the operation name is implemented and callable. It does not by itself promise byte-for-byte parity for every upstream option. See Compatibility and current status for the verified scope and known boundaries.
Arguments and options
Arguments are positional. Keep their order when using bake() or
Pipeline.then().

Recipe template
Important
This is a call template built from the documented defaults. Replace placeholder values such as empty keys, paths, patterns, or lookup data before running it.
from pychef import bake
input_value = "example"
args = [{'string': '', 'option': 'Hex'}, {'string': '', 'option': 'Hex'}, {'string': '', 'option': 'Hex'}, 'Raw', 'Hex']
result = bake(input_value, [{"op": 'Ascon Encrypt', "args": args}])
print(result)
Pipeline example
from pychef import Pipeline
args = [{'string': '', 'option': 'Hex'}, {'string': '', 'option': 'Hex'}, {'string': '', 'option': 'Hex'}, 'Raw', 'Hex']
transform = Pipeline().then('Ascon Encrypt', *args)
result = transform("example")
Direct call
pychef.ops.run_operation runs any registered operation as a plain function,
under the active ExecutionPolicy (safe defaults, no network):
from pychef.ops import run_operation
args = [{'string': '', 'option': 'Hex'}, {'string': '', 'option': 'Hex'}, {'string': '', 'option': 'Hex'}, 'Raw', 'Hex']
result = run_operation('Ascon Encrypt', "example", args=args)
Common operations also have typed helpers in Direct operations.
Low-level operation module
Warning
The module below is an internal implementation detail. It applies no execution
policy, resource limits, or error sanitization; prefer bake(), Pipeline,
or pychef.ops for application code.
The registered entry point lives in
pychef.operations.by_operation.ascon_encrypt. Direct calls
receive the input value and a positional argument tuple:
from pychef.operations.by_operation.ascon_encrypt import run
result = run("example", tuple([{'string': '', 'option': 'Hex'}, {'string': '', 'option': 'Hex'}, {'string': '', 'option': 'Hex'}, 'Raw', 'Hex']))
- pychef.operations.by_operation.ascon_encrypt.run(value, args)
Run this operation using its shared internal implementation.
- Parameters:
value (str | bytes)
args (Sequence[Any])
- Return type:
str | bytes
